Is Jalin Hyatt a Legit First-Round Talent and Future Dynasty Star? The Advanced Metrics Are Pretty Crazy

Jalin Hyatt is widely expected to be taken in the first round of the reality draft. The speed and explosiveness he displayed at the combine only solidifies his draft stock. Yet he routinely slips to the second round of dynasty rookie mock drafts. Are NFL GMs overvaluing Hyatt’s final season production and tested athleticism? Or are fantasy GMs undervaluing Hyatt’s on-field abilities?

The Box Score Scout gives you the ability to input a player’s projected draft position and evaluate different scenarios. You can use this to see how a player’s comps change depending on where he’s drafted — usually the results are drastic. One thing I like to do, however, is to leave the draft position input blank. This enables me to see draft-agnostic comps based only on the statistical and athletic measurements. Rather than telling the Box Score Scout where a player might be drafted, I want the tool to tell me where it thinks a player should be drafted, based on where similar players have been drafted. This exercise reveals that the Box Score Scout has a very strong opinion on Jalin Hyatt.

Every single one of Hyatt’s top-10 comps is a first rounder. In fact, they were all drafted in the first 20 picks. Now, this could simply mean that Hyatt looks like a lot of players that the NFL tends to overvalue — there are some first-round busts on this list after all. So the question is: does Hyatt deserve to be valued as a first rounder like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Brandin Cooks? Or is he the type of player NFL executives routinely overdraft like Corey Coleman and Tavon Austin?

How to Use the Win the Flex and Range of Outcomes Tools to Find Undervalued Wide Receivers

RotoViz was a pioneer of the idea of structural drafting, often in tandem with the idea that the flex wins championships and that fantasy football drafts are a race to fill the flex. But we’ve always paired structural drafting with evidence-based player-level research. Success in fantasy is not as simple as drafting the right number of RBs or drafting a QB in the right round,…...

Best Ball Mania IV is in full swing, and player ADPs are becoming more rigid every day as drafters anchor to the number next to a player’s name. Using our Underdog ADP tool — now with the ability to show an ADP Draft Grid — we…...
