This 2022 Rookie Might Be the Next Mark Andrews, But Will His Team Situation Make a Breakout Possible?

The Ravens selected Mark Andrews in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, over 50 picks later than Hayden Hurst, a former first-rounder. That became one of the Ravens’ most fruitful drafts, with Lamar Jackson and Andrews remaining staples in the offense. Andrews scored 22 touchdowns in college, with eight coming in his final season, plus 958 receiving yards. He ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at 256 pounds, translating to a 94th-percentile Speed Score and 95th-percentile Freak Score.

His athleticism, ability to score touchdowns, and penchant for splash plays quickly became evident. Andrews ranked 11th in FPOE/G, eighth in YAC per reception, and fourth in air yards per target as a rookie. In Year 2, Andrews led the Ravens in targets and receiving production, with the third-best FPOE/G.

While Andrews may seem like an extreme upside comparison, there’s a 2022 rookie tight end with similar athleticism, expected production, and efficiency as a rookie.
